The Gastec Corporation of Japan has been manufacturing gas detector tubes, pumps and accessories for more than 30 years. As of July 2001, more than 250 kinds of Gastec detector tubes have been introduced. These tubes are used all over the world to measure for the presence of in excess of 500 different gaseous substances. Gastec direct reading detector tubes indicate concentration directly on calibrated scales printed on the tubes eliminating the need for color scales. They enable simple, quick, low cost analysis on site by the workers, plant managers or anyone else trained in their use.

Gastec detector tubes are manufactured in ISO-9001 certified facilities in Japan, and are sold exclusively in Canada by Levitt-Safety. No other manufacturer has more detector tubes certified by the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI). Located in McLean, Virginia,  SEI is a well regarded, private, non-profit organization established in 1981 to administer the first non-governmental, third party certification program to test and certify a broad range of safety products. Currently 21 Gastec tube types have been subject to SEI inspection allowing Gastec to enjoy full SEI certification for all 21 of these tubes.
